Barton Mines Co. Garnet Sheds

The first garnet shed was built here by the North River Garnet Co. in 1904 and the tracks were extended to it from the station area.  Barton Mines purchased the North River Garnet Co. in 1928 and in 1937 added the second shed to the south.
When the line was extended to Tahawus in 1942, they left the old line as a siding and added the new tracks closer to the river.  A 1951 traffic report lists them as receiving 45 carloads and shipping 236 carloads per year.  By 1990 the sheds were not in use and were torn down sometime in the mid 1990's.
There are three sections with the center one looking like the oldest having a mortared stone base and poured concrete floor measuring 16' x 120'. A 30' section of poured concrete is attached directly to the north end of this.  To the south is a 16' x 75' foundation of poured concrete and separated from the main one by 5.5'.  This was the building added in 1937.  The siding is about 600' long.
