Saratoga Trap Rock Company Siding near Saratoga Springs This siding was built in September of 1906 for the Saratoga Trap Rock Company and was located just east of Braim Road in the Town of Greenfield. There was a 500' siding parallel to the mainline on the north side of the tracks and a 2,253' siding on the south side. In 1907, 231' of track was added in June and another 30' in August. Edgar Brackett was listed as a director in 1911 and a 1914 map shows a trap rock quarry on the north side of the Braim Road crossing so this was probably the source of the material. The siding was removed in 1919 as the current owner, Mary Chamberlain, was selling the property. This photo is near the beginning of the siding as it curves to the east toward the main in the distance. This photo is looking south as the cut gets deeper. 1908 map - the mainline is to the right off the page Jon Patton Photos - 2013 |
