Thurman Water Towers Photos There were three water towers at Thurman with the first being built by the Adirondack Company in about 1873. A second one was built across from the station in c.1900 then was replaced in 1931 with the final tank. I have not come across a photo of the first water tower but thanks to the 1891 Adirondack Railway Atlas, I was able to find the site and a remnant of a stone foundation. This was located north of the station at A73.3.
The second tank was next to the station at A72.73. Two photos from 1918 from the Walt Favro Collection. 1928 This is the third water tower in a photo from 1936. This was moved here from Eagle Bridge and held 50,000 gallons. It was located at A72.5 near the switch to Warrensburg. Work on it started in 1930 and finished on 7/16/31. It was removed in 1954. |
